Data Dictionaries

Data dictionaries help DataXpert understand your data so it can give you sharper answers.

When you connect a data source, DataXpert builds a data dictionary that includes:

  • Table and column names
  • The kind of data each column holds (text, numbers, dates, etc.)
  • A picture of how complete each column is
  • How tables relate to each other (for multi-table uploads)
  1. Click Data in the sidebar.
  2. On the Datastores list, find the source you want.
  3. Click its Data Dict action.

The right dictionary view opens for the source — spreadsheet, database, or document.

Click any column to add or edit its description. The more context you provide, the better DataXpert understands your data.

Example: Column cust_ltv → Description: “Customer lifetime value in USD, calculated as total revenue minus acquisition cost.”

You can edit table and column details at any time without starting over. Your descriptions are preserved across updates.
